Guided Walking Holidays in the Lake District

The English Lake District is unique. Nowhere else is there such a concentration of attractive hills and beautiful lakes criss-crossed by such a network of accessible pathways and trails. There are steep cliffs for the rock-climbers and lakeside paths for the strollers, but also many summits which can be reached by the averagely fit walker going at a steady pace. History and literature are everywhere, from the monks of Furness Abbey who owned great tracts of the Lake District to the writers - Wordsworth of course; but also Ruskin, Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome.

Pathways Walks currently offer two guided walking tours in the Lake District.

The Strider - six days' guided walking round the south-western Lake District.

The Abbey Lands Way - five days' guided walking from Barrow-in-Furness to Grange-in-Borrowdale  passing through Woodland Fell, the Duddon Valley, Eskdale and Borrowdale.

Weekends: Get away from home and join us for a taste of freedom in the Lake District. Two nights accommodation (Friday & Saturday) and two days'  guided walking (Saturday and Sunday).

15/16th May (Patterdale)
19/20th June  or 26/27th June depending on demand (Borrowdale)
Cost: £115 - £125 depending on accommodation available.

Best of the Coast to Coast: Either midweek or a long weekend! We are prejudiced, obviously, but we think the very best bit of the Wainwright's Coast to Coast is walking from Ennerdale Bridge to Shap (the next day to Kirkby Stephen is pretty good too). We are offering  a trip with nights at Ennerdale Bridge, Borrowdale and Patterdale. You would probably need either a day before or after for travelling.

In this guided walking trip you get guiding, baggage transfer, B&B accommodation for three nights for £199. The best way to travel is by train (taxi from St Bees) and back from Shap but we can arrange a transfer for you.

Dates to be arranged to suit the group (minimum 6 people)

Staying Locally and Need a Guide?

You may be staying in a Lake District Hotel, Bed & Breakfast, Self-catering Cottage or Timeshare ...your accommodation's taken care of, but how do you make the most of the walking opportunities in this fantastic region? Simple ... contact us, talk over your level of walking and what you want out of it. Pathways Walks will put together a programme of guided walking and show you what you want to see, whether it's adventurous routes on the high peaks and ridges or relaxing strolls at valley level. We can show you how to make the most of bad weather days - you don't have to go shopping!

Stay at the Greyhound Inn

Do you fancy a relaxing break staying in a village inn on the southern fringe of the Lake District? The Greyhound is situated in Grizebeck and is our local pub as well as offering comfortable en-suite accommodation. From the front door a number of excellent walks are possible onto Woodland Fell, Great Burney Fell and Kirkby Moor. Another walk will take you to Ulverston, using part of the Cumbria Way, where you can explore this interesting little town with its cobbled streets, market cross and associations with Stan Laurel before returning on the bus. Or you can walk to Broughton-in-Furness, another fascinating village, and come back on the bus.

Bed and breakfast at the Greyhound starts at £30 per person per night, or you can book a Pathways package including two days guided walking from as little as £90 per person if you get a group together.

Walks can be local or you may wish to travel further afield (the Coniston Fells are only 20 minutes drive away)
